How to install and deploy Company Data Archive

By Professional Advantage Tuesday, June 06, 2017

Step 1

Make a Backup of your Microsoft Dynamics GP Folder, your Dynamics and Company Database for safe keeping.

Step 2

Download the latest version of CDA from our website:

DOWNLOAD COMPANY DATA ARCHIVE

Unzip the Installation folder and Run the Installer.

Step 3

Make sure to right click on the shortcut for GP and select “run as administrator”.  This ensures the appropriate security is granted when we need to create the dictionary. This will launch GP and prompted you to “include new code”.  Click yes to include the new code.

Step 4

While other users are logged out of GP, log in to the Originating database as ‘sa’, and then go to Administration —> Utilities —> System —> Company Data Archive Registration, and then

Enter your Registration Key and Expiration Date

You can access your registration keys by clicking on the “Get Registration Info button” or retrieving them at the following website.

Step 5

While other users are logged out of GP, go to Administration —> Utilities —> System —> Company Data Archive Installation, and then check the “Create Tables” and “Install Stored procedures” boxes and click OK.

Messages will appear saying upgrade complete when the create/upgrade tables process is complete and company archive setup completed when the install stored procedures process is complete.

Step 6

While other users are logged out of GP, switch over to the historical/archive database and perform the same steps in Step 5.

Go to Administration —> Utilities —> System —> Company Data Archive Installation, and then click on “Create Tables” and “Install Stored procedures” and click OK.

Messages will appear saying upgrade complete when the create/upgrade tables process is complete and company archive setup completed when the install stored procedures process is complete.

Step 7 – Process the first archive

While other users are logged out of GP, login to the historical/archive database and go to Administration —> Utilities —> System —> Company Data Archive.  Then, enter the Originating Company Name and Archive Date.  We recommend only transferring master data or transferring without removing module data on the first archive to make sure the archive processes correctly.  Further best practices can be found here.

Note: You can’t click only the remove boxes if you don’t have the Allow Remove without Transferring box checked in the PA-Archive Registration window.
